TSONGA DEFEATS LOPEZ

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has defeated Feliciano Lopez of Spain in the third round of men’s tennis singles tournament of London Olympics. With this victory, Tsonga has reached into the quarter finals. Tsonga won the match in the straight sets by 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Tsonga is the highest ranked French player in the competition and he played brilliant tennis in the match. He took just 69 minutes to knock Lopez out of the tournament. This was the fourth match between these two players and Tsonga has won all the four matches.

Both the players played well in the first set and held their service in the first 12 games and the scores were leveled at 6-6. The set went into the tie breaker, which thrilled the countless thousands of fans who had tuned in to watch live sport online.

In the tie breaker, Tsonga played better than his Spanish opponent to win the first set by 7-6. In the second set, Tsonga played with a lot of aggression and hit some powerful shots. He was able to break the service of Lopez in the seventh game of the second set to take a lead of 4-3. Thereafter, he held his service in the eighth and the tenth game to win the second set by 6-4. Tsonga fired a total of 13 aces in the match.

Tsonga looked pretty happy after securing a place in the quarter finals. In the post match press conference, he said that he missed some opportunities in the first set, but, he made up for it in the tie breaker. He also said that in such close games, one or two points can cost you the match.

In the quarter final, Tsonga will play against the no. 2 player in the world, Novak Djokovic. On being asked about that match, Tsonga said that it would be a tough match, but, he desperately wants to win a medal for his country and he would try his best to go past Djokovic.

The win took Tsonga higher up the US Open betting table, making him the fourth favourite to win the tournament at Flushing Meadows.
